Reclaimed Wood “Grocery” Sign
As I was scouring Pinterest looking for the perfect Grocery Farmhouse inspired sign all the while just sucking my teeth at how unbelievably expensive they all were. Little did I know that my amazing husband would uncover the best wood plank that I could have ever wanted for this project. We live in a rental home currently and the previous tenants left some wood underneath an old workbench and boom, reclaimed wood! Chris automatically stained it with our favorite color Minwax in dark walnut. It’s such a rich color that brings out such beauty in the wood. Now that we had our perfect piece of wood…it was time to paint my favorite word “GROCERY”. Chris always used to give me a hard time when I would say lets go to the grocery. He’s like Robyn it’s a “Grocery Store”. To each his own.
When we were at Walmart I was searching for stencils in the craft area and low and behold there were stencils in the perfect size in the clearance aisle. Win win!
So now for stenciling…I’m not the best at it but the beauty of farmhouse chic is that it doesn’t have to be perfect. I have recently found a new chalk paint that’s actually just as good as Annie Sloan in my opinion. A bonus it was on sale at Walmart for $4.97 this week. It’s the Waverly Chalk Paint in “snow”. I’ve also used the colors “plaster” an off white as well as “mineral” a cool tone beige and they go on so nicely. After the letters dried I decided they just looked way too white, so I went over them with a little glaze from Rethunk Junk Dark Glaze. It gives any finish that old vintage look. So without further ado. Here’s our finished “GROCERY” sign. I can’t wait to hang it up above our pantry as soon as we move in!
Thanks little birdies for stopping by my nest!
