How to Update Your Vintage Gumball Machine
So very few people know this about me, but I have this obsession with gumball machines. I think it’s the nostalgia that they seem to offer me. They bring me back to childhood and simpler times. Wow…that was a very grown up sentence. Any who, I remember both of my Grandmas had them in their house. One of my few memories of my late grandmother was that she kept Peanut M&Ms in her machine. I thought it was so cool as a kid! So when I asked my mom if she still had ours from my childhood she said, honey that is long gone in a garage sale. I was sad nonetheless, however I knew my Grandma still had hers. She slowly made her way all the way from Illinois to SC and eventually to on to her new home in Georgia. As much as I loved it in all its blue glory, I knew that she needed a pick me up and what better to get a new life than hammered spray paint in silver.
Before
It still says I’m old with the original paint on the faceplate, but dang I sure look good now with a fresh hammered coat of paint. I originally wanted to do it white, but when I saw the hammered silver spray can there on the workbench I knew that it would look very cool. So here she is…In all of her glory.
After
I decided to go with traditional gum balls to add a little life to this corner of my kitchen. I can’t wait to have my nieces and nephews over so maybe they can create those same memories I had as a child. Nostalgia lives on!
