DIY Rae Dunn Cubby Boxes

Happy Friday! The other day I came across these Rae Dunn inspired decals my mom picked up for me from Etsy a few years ago. They were stuck in one of my Christmas tins and I honestly forgot all about them.

So I took to Michael’s to see if I could find something to put them on. I was initially looking for ornaments, but then I ran across these cute little wooden boxes. They were in the dollar spot near the register. I thought these would look so cute painted white. I also took the chance that they would fit perfectly in my antique mail slot holder. But at only $1 I figured I could take that chance. It also turned out that I had 14 decals and 14 same size slots in the mail holder. It’s like it was meant to be! I just love when projects come together!

I used ArtMinds chalk paint from Michael’s in simply white to paint one coat on just the outside of the boxes. I wanted them to look more natural and rustic so I kept the inside raw wood. I used a sponge brush since that’s all I could find, but I recommend using an actual paint brush.

I let the boxes dry for a good hour before I put on the decals.

I’m so happy with how they turned out! I’m thinking I could order some every day decals to put on the back of the boxes so I could use them year round if I wanted to.
