Dresser Update with Fusion Mineral Paint Using Raw Silk
Happy Monday y’all! Yesterday I took a poll on Instagram to see if I should paint my black coffee bar white and 64% of you said “yes to white”, that just sounded like “say yes to the dress” , so I took action today and tackled it! I picked up some Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Raw Silk the other weekend that I’ve been dying to test it out on a big piece of furniture. It’s a white with a slight twinge of gray in it. I’ve had this dresser for over 10 years so I figured it was time for it to get a little update. I also think it will coordinate with the rest of my office furniture. I’ve slowly been painting our abundance of black furniture back to lighter colors and it’s so refreshing.
Here’s a little before of the coffee bar/dresser
If you are looking to paint a piece of furniture I highly recommend using Fusion Mineral Paint. It goes on like a dream and is so easy to use! I’ve used it on numerous pieces of furniture in our house and it has held up so well! There are no extra steps which is so nice. It has zero VOC which is great since I painted this piece up in my office. I did crack my window just for added ventilation, but I can barely smell anything.
To prep the dresser, I first took off all the hardware and gave it a good cleaning with a microfiber cloth to get any grease or dust particles off of it before painting. This step is very important because it ensures you will have a better finish to your piece. I took out all the drawers and painted the shell of the dresser first. Black is always very hard to cover, but with this paint it’s so easy!
After painting the dresser I went on and painted the drawers. I let that coat of paint dry for a good hour. This paint dries super fast. Just a little tip I picked up, I recommend putting a plastic sandwich bag in between the top and the jar, it’s a lot easier to open afterward.
After the first coat was fully dry I went in with the second coat. I do want to mention the brush that I use, because I feel like the tools you use when painting are just as important as the paint you’re using. It’s the Purdy XL cub medium stiff 2.0″. This is hands down my favorite brush of all time. I’ve purchased so many of them. It has a short handle which I love, and the perfect angle for getting in all those corners and crevices.
The second coat I let dry for a good 2 hours before replacing the hardware and putting in the drawers. I am going to give it 24 hours to fully cure before I put anything on top. It’s so amazing how paint can transform a piece of furniture. So if you’re itching to paint something go pick up this Fusion Mineral Paint and paint away! I find painting to be very therapeutic. It allows me to escape while being crafty. And there’s no better feeling when you see the finished product. It’s a very rewarding project!
Here she is!
Thank you for flying by today friends! Now I have to go and clean up the mess I’ve made. Never the fun part. And remember to clean out your brush! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve left it in a plastic bag with the paint on it in the fridge thinking I’ll come back to it, but then the air gets to it and it gets ruined. Must do better Robyn! 🙂

It is very refreshing for sure! I was in a black furniture phase 10 years ago…so it’s nice to have light and bright items again! Happy painting!

I’ve always thought that fusion paint looks lovely on pieces, and this is no exception! Beautiful piece. Are you planning to use it as a coffee bar? That will be SO nice! Thanks for joining in at Homestyle Gathering, Robyn!
