Playroom

Now that we are in full toddler mode at the Davis household it was time for a dedicated space for “Little Miss Davis” to play. We converted the upstairs den into another guest room in order to make my craft room/office into a playroom. We wanted to make this room a bit more youthful so we incorporated more modern pieces into this space. So far it’s been so nice to have a dedicated room where we don’t have to worry about her (as much) and where she can be free to explore the whole room where nothing is “off limits”.

This room gets the morning light so it’s so nice and cheerful to come up here in the mornings to let her play before naptime. When picking out the furniture and finishes of this space we didn’t want to go too babyish, that way she can grow with this room. The first thing we found was the area rug. It covers the majority of this room which is what we wanted. It is a wool rug so it will take some time not to shed. I try and vacuum it daily to speed up that process. It reminded us of paint brush strokes which is kind of fitting since I left the hanging paint brushes up on the wall behind the craft table.

I found these fun round floor cushions on Target. They reminded me of macaroons. Hopefully they will come back in stock soon. We drove to another city just to get the pink one. They are so comfortable when you’re on the floor playing. I love the way she flops over on to them. It’s so cute!

For the sofa I sourced a low profile one that wasn’t super high off of the ground so she feels comfortable climbing up and getting down. Plus the window sill comes down rather low and this one turned out to be the perfect height. It’s also a slipcovered sofa just in case accidents happens. Which I know they will. To jazz it up a little I found this fun blue and green fabric on Spoonflower by Danika Herrick, and had two custom lumbars made.

If you haven’t noticed by now, my favorite trio of colors are green, blue and pink. So you’ll see that theme threaded throughout the room. We didn’t want primary and we didn’t want pastels so we like to call it the “Tropical Skittles” color palette.

I snapped this picture the other night before bedtime. I love the coziness of this room.

I found this dowel side table on Target during their circle days. I thought it coordinated with the other wood tones in the room and brings a little more modern feel to this area.

The blue velvet ottoman was a random Homegoods find. I love that it has a lift top for added storage. It has soft edges and she loves cruising and climbing on it. It also happend to match the custom blue and white stripe lampshades I made for our sconces.

For this little DIY, all I did was hot glue some ribbon on the inside of the lampshade and just kept on tightly wrapping the ribbon around and around the lampshade. It just gives these sconces some added pattern and I love how they turned out! These brass light fixtures are plug in, but they can also be hardwired. I love the swivel arm and they create the perfect little ambiance in the evenings.

For the window treatments I went with pinch pleat black out curtain panels in pink. Because this room is so neutral I felt like it needed some color on the walls. I added some cute trim tape to make them a bit more fancy, and it gives them that added detail for a more custom look.

Over on the closet wall where I once had my Pinkie and Blue Boys, I added some acrylic book shelves to display her seasonal books. I love using books as art. Our girl loves looking at her books so we wanted a little corner of the room to be dedicated to reading.

The rotating house bookshelf was an Amazon find. I think Chris bought it when she was first born. It sat in it’s box in our sitting room up until last month. It’s a raw wood which I thought looked cool with all of her wooden toys. It would be adorable painted as well, but as of right now I know I don’t have the time to dedicate to that kind of project. There are so many edges it would probably be best to have it sprayed if you do go that route.

The sage green chair was a gift from her Jo Jo that she loves climbing up in with her books and baby dolls.

One of my favorite little areas in her playroom is the art wall. If y’all have been here for awhile you’ll know that in our old house we had a letter board down in our basement. You can read how I made them here. I took those same wooden ledges and hung them up to display all of her artwork in the future. We just started dabbling with crayons recently so that’s been fun! To make it extra special I added an art light above to properly showcase this area.

The TV area is on the wall when you first walk in which is nice so you don’t see a giant screen when you look into the room. We don’t really watch that much TV, but while we’re playing we listed to music with it. We had it mounted for safety and then found this Caned TV Console from Target to put underneath. It was the perfect length and offers some additional storage for this space as well. When chosing the toys to display on here I tried to pick ones that she hadn’t gone to play with in quite sometime. But of course as soon as she saw them all on display it was all she wanted to play with. So funny!

Stuffed Animals. Where do we start? When does it end?!! Am I right? Chris found this stuffed animal display *ahem (cage) to house all of her friends. I have no doubt that come December this thing will be full to the brim. It’s behind the door so yet another out of sight display to help with anything looking too cluttered in here.

The craft table has really come in handy because not only did it already have cubbies down below, but its the perfect height for us to set our phones or drinks out of the reach of our little one. Chris found these hyacinth storage baskets we house all of her toys in as well. They are lightweight so that she can easily take them in and out herself. Once she’s older we will probably get a small kids table and chairs that she can color at, and I am also considering a standing stool for her.

Organization at this age is next to impossible, however every night I try and tidy it up so that she knows where to find things the next day. I hope by that repetition she will pick up on it over time. And in all honesty I find it very gratifying to tidy it all up. Once she’s older we will have the “It’s clean up time it’s clean up time it’s jolly jolly clean up time”. I always hear that jingle and I can’t remember which teacher used to sing that to us but obviously it stuck.

Here’s a look at some of the items we keep in the TV cabinet. Of course they don’t stay here for very long.

Chris requested me to include a scene from Parks and Rec using Andy and Ron at the Little People Taco Truck eating their “Meat Tornadoes”. IYKYK. lol!

I really thank you for flying by today. I know it was long awaited and I really appreciate all the love over here! I tried to link all the sources below for you to shop. If there is something I missed please feel free to reach out and I’d be glad to help you out.

xoxo,

Robyn

I like to put a bird in every room for our girl to find and blow kisses to each night. It’s seriously the cutest thing ever!
