Annual Window Box Flowers
This is my first go round at annual window box flowers. I was so excited that our new garden shed had the option to add these little cuties! So I took to the garden center the weekend after the shed was dropped off and picked up a few cuties for each of the window boxes. I kind of wanted a patriotic theme even if these Lobelia’s are a little more on the purplish-blue side. I love a pop of red against a white house with black shutters. It’s just so classic to me.
I’m going to hold on to the tags just in case I want to re-create this same look next year.
Here’s the Breakdown:
Left to Right
Bocopa (small white flowers for trailing)
Vinca Vine (greenery for trailing)
Red Begonia for that pop of color
Vinca Vine
Edging Lobelia (trailing small bluish purple flowers )
Both the Bacopa and the Lobelia will cascade and trail as they grow which is such a beautiful look for window boxes. I used a potting mix along with some of our compost soil. I also will fertilize them every week to every two weeks as well.
These are all full sun flowers so be sure to keep that in mind if you are wanting to plant the same. Our shed gets morning to early afternoon sun. Before planting them I kind of just sat them in the box to see how I wanted to arrange them. I can’t wait to update this blog once they are really showing off. So stay tuned for that this Summer!
Quick Tip:
Be sure that your window boxes have proper drainage and to make things easier you can always install a drip line so you don’t have to worry about watering them.
