Affordable Window Treatments

Hey friends and happy Thursday! We have been sleeping without curtains for a little over a month since we’ve moved in, and I am so glad that that is over. I don’t mind waking up to the sunrise, but let’s be honest it’s nice to have some privacy at night. So I have been on the hunt for affordable window treatments for quite some time and I am happy to announce that I have finally found a really good option to share with y’all!

We have 12 foot ceilings in our bedroom so I knew that we needed them to be extra long, which is almost impossible to find in stores. So I scoured the internet, I even thought of doing custom panels, but honestly I wanted to put that kind of money elsewhere. I purchased the hardware from Ollie’s Bargain Outlet about a month before we even moved to our new house. The chandelier in our bedroom is iron with crystal detailing, and these rods had the perfect crystal detail on the finial. They were only $11.99 each. Score!!! I wasn’t able to find a direct link to them since I’m pretty sure Ollie’s buys close out items.

Let’s get to the actual curtains shall we? I found these faux linen blackout curtains on Amazon. They had the length I needed (50 x 120) and the color (birch) I was looking for. I also read all the reviews before purchasing them, and they all seemed to be very positive. I took the plunge and ordered them earlier this week. I figured if they weren’t great I could just return them. Turns out…I love them!

They have a really nice weight and weave to them, and they don’t look cheap at all! Best part is, is that they didn’t come extremely wrinkled! I know Amazon does fluctuate in pricing so I will just say, for four panels they were under $200. Yes, they do come as a single panel which is crazy, but for the price you really can’t beat it. I purchased the color Birch. It’s a nice neutral beige without a lot of warmth to it which is what I wanted. They have a nice selection of colors to choose from too. I may even order some for Chris’ office as well.

Before hanging them I had to patch up the holes from the previous valance that was up there. Unfortunately they didn’t line up with the hardware that I was using, but that’s ok. Easy fix!

I also ordered these curtain hooks and these 1 inch drapery rings to hang them on the rod as you see below. I thought because they were so high I wanted to be sure that they would slide easily on the rod when we need to close them at night. I also think it gives them a more custom feel as well.

I most likely will be doing a follow up review after we use them for awhile to share how they hold up and how well they block the light at night so stay tuned for that. I was just really excited to share an affordable option for window treatments with y’all and wanted to get this one up ASAP.

Curtains in a master bedroom

I hung them 7 1/2 inches from the top of our trim on the windows. That way it draws your eye up. I didn’t want to go much higher than that because I still wanted the drapes to just kiss the ground. You can certainly hang them however you choose, but that’s just my suggestion. I kind of like the pooling look, but some people don’t. It’s really just a personal preference.

I also suggest extending the rod past the edge of the trim of the window, that way it frames the window with the drapes and it makes your window look bigger than it is. These windows in our bedroom are very narrow and they go all the way to the floor, but by extending the rod out further you can see that the edge of the fabric is just right at the edge of the window.
